All pregnant Employees are entitled to take 52 weeks Maternity Leave.  This is comprised of 26 weeks Ordinary Maternity Leave followed by 26 weeks Additional Maternity Leave. The length of Maternity Leave does not change for multiple births.


The Employee is also entitled to either Statutory Maternity Pay or Maternity Allowance.

The Employee should notify the Employer by no later than the end of 15th week before the expected week of childbirth of the fact the she is pregnant.


The Employee should also notify the Employer by no later than the end of 15th week before the expected week of childbirth of the expected date of birth and the date on which she intends to commence her Maternity Leave. The Employee must give their Maternity Leave notification in writing.


Whilst on Maternity Leave the Employee is entitled to attend up to 10 Keeping In Touch Days (KIT) without losing her entitlement to Statutory Maternity Pay. A KIT day is an opportunity for an Employee to maintain contact with the work place.


Upon the Employee's return to work, the Employer must provide facilities suitable for enabling the Employee to express breast milk.


Maternity Leave Documents - Employee Pack includes letters dealing with:


  • Notification of pregnancy;
  • Notification of antenatal appointments;
  • Breastfeeding notification;
  • Notification of date for Maternity Leave to commence and intended duration;
  • Returning from Maternity Leave earlier or later than originally intended;
